The principle is simple: you move around the board to collect stars, which must be purchased with coins. These coins are earned by participating in mini-games, which take place at the end of each round.
These mini-games usually last one or two minutes, and many are inspired by classic Game & Watch games.
Mario Party 4 features over 50 mini-games, each taking place either in free-for-all, 2 vs. 2, or 1 vs. 3 (depending on your position on the board at the end of your turn).
