Discover a new thinner and lighter PlayStation 3, which will be released in September 2009, at a reduced price and with a very rich catalog of software.
At gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. unveiled the new PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, featuring a sleek form factor and 120GB hard drive.
The internal architecture of the new PS3 system has been completely modified, both at the level of the main semiconductors as well as the power supply unit and the cooling mechanism, in order to obtain a significantly slimmer silhouette and a weight well lighter.
The internal volume, thickness and weight of this model have been reduced by about a third compared to the very first model of the PS3 with a 60 GB hard drive. In addition, the power consumption has also been reduced by a third, which helps reduce fan noise.
While inheriting the clean, curved lines of the original model, the form factor of the new PS3 system features a meticulous design, as well as a textured surface finish, producing a sense of novelty combined with an informal appearance.
With its compact silhouette and informal style, the new model presented will appeal to a wider audience, which seeks to obtain the best home entertainment system.
To accompany the release of the new PS3 system, SCEI will change the brand name of the PS3 from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3, while launching a new logo, engraved on the surface of the new PS3 system.
By unifying under the famous name PlayStation (which represents the entire PlayStation family), the PS3, PlayStation 2 and PSP will enable the further expansion of PlayStation activities, while continuing to improve the entertainment offer alongside the PlayStation Network, which continues to grow.
The new PS3 will offer the same advanced features as current models, including the ability to enjoy movies and games on Blu-ray Disc (BD) in High Definition, as well as a variety of content and services to download from the network.
